Based in an inner city multi-racial area of Leeds, Chapeltown Citizens Advice is an independent charity with 14 paid staff and 35 volunteers that provides a comprehensive advice service from its main office and outreaches. We have a vacancy for the following:
Welfare Rights Appeals Worker
This is an exciting project with the University of Leeds Law School. The role involves taking on welfare benefit appeals for vulnerable clients in our locality and representing them at their appeal hearing and supervising and training student volunteers to assist you in your work. One day a week will be spent at the university of Leeds.
You will have
● Ability to understand the complexities of welfare benefit law, compose concise arguments and present a coherent case.
● Confidence to speak in public.
● Excellent mentoring and people management skills
● Must be able to relate to students and identify points of career development
● Excellent verbal and written communication.
● Understanding of, and commitment to, the aims and principles of the CAB service and its equality and diversity policies.
● Ability to deal with clients in a sensitive and professional manner.
Hours: 36.25 per week (full time)
Location: Leeds
Contract: permanent starting as soon as possible
Salary: £25,863 - £27,514 plus 5% pension and 36 days holiday (including bank holidays)
